Athlete Spotlight: Jordan Fisher

Being a student-athlete is hard as many know. We dread going to those morning practices or having to cram a snack and homework during every minute of free time we have, it’s tiring. Now doing one sport is a lot of work, but doing TWO, that’s talent. However, this next athlete makes it look easy. He manages to be a leader on/off the field and being a great student while still succeeding in both sports! This week's spotlight athlete is the one and only Jordan Fisher! *AHHHH THE CROWD GOES WILD* So, let’s all take a hit into the lifestyle of being a phenomenal two sport student-athlete.

If you haven’t seen his name in the papers or rosters enough, Jordan is a four-year varsity baseball player where he plays outfield and a three-year varsity football player where he has played safety, running back, wide receiver, and cornerback, which are some of the hardest positions to play in football. I told you this athlete has talent! But where did it all start? Well, he started baseball at just 4 years old and then football a few years later at 7 years old. One of the main reasons he began playing was after watching his brother play both sports, he knew that he wanted to do the same. Now, until this day he claims his family is still his #1 supporter and critic; they want to see him continue to grow as a person and as a player so they have never let him get complacent. Which I think has worked out pretty good because wait until you find out where he is now!

Jordan plays outfield for the CCB (Cal Club Baseball) National Scout travel team and Admirals Baseball team outside of school. With both club teams and high school teams, he has had countless recognitions and many awards. Some of these accomplishments include 2x All League Outfielder, Newcomer of the Year award, second in the MVP voting as a freshman, All League Safety award. In his junior year football campaign, he had a total of 133 yards and 11 catches, and as just a freshman he was recognized by one of his coaches in an article as having the Wolves’ best batting average and growing into a team leader. Wow, that was a lot. Just from typing that my fingers are tired! The endless support and criticism from family, friends, teammates, and coaches has truly shaped him into a very well rounded athlete. Now let’s swing into the daily life of THE Jordan Fisher.

So, you know typically student-athletes have some type of routine like they do homework at a certain time and workout at another. Yeah, well Jordan’s schedule is a little bit more specific. If you ever want to know what he’s doing here’s his exact schedule:

6-6:05: wake up and get out of bed

6:05-6:50: shower brush teeth and put clothes on (have clothes set out day before)

7-8: lift or hitting

8-8:30: shower, get ready for school

8:40-11:18: school

11:18-12:50: homework and eat

1-2: lift or hitting and bands

2-2:30: running/agility

2:45-3:15: shower and eat

3:20- 4:20: nap

4:25-5:25: homework (if I still have any)

5:25-9: spend time with family

9-11: do whatever

11:10: sleep

Like I mentioned before student athletes do not have a single minute of their day to waste, and this is his schedule without practice! The commitment and dedication Jordan has to the game is crazy. In order to be a successful student-athlete, time management is definitely key. Jordan stated in the interview that everyday he tries to finish as much schoolwork as he can throughout the school day to ensure a light load of work after practice. With this tactic it gives him time every night to have a break and just relax or go on social media before going to bed. Also a fun fact about Jordan if you catch a guy wearing a sweatsuit on game day, it’s probably him! Within this schedule, on game days he always saves time to wear a sweatsuit and listen to music throughout the day.

Overall, Jordan Fisher is a prime example of what a student-athlete should look like. He has learned a lot over the years of doing multiple sports at once, but one of the biggest lessons he learned was to never give up. If you continue to work hard he stated that you will be successful no matter what. Having this busy routine has truly impacted his life and set him up on a good path down the road. Sports have been a huge part of creating him into the vocal leader, disciplined, responsible, and hard-working person he stands to be today. Which I am sure many of you other athletes can learn a lot from.

Thank you so much Jordan for being such a great role model and leader on and off the field for all the younger athletes out there. Your dedication has truly been noticed by your teammates, coaches and many more. You have had a very inspiring journey and lifestyle in your baseball and football career so far and we can’t wait to see what the future has waiting for you. Keep working hard, as we know you will, and you will continue to be the successful student-athlete you are today. Go Wolves!
