Have you ever felt the longing to steal away from your hometown and adventure to a greater somewhere? Or, perhaps, have you found yourself taken by old, perennial tales of great romance – blighted epics of Capulets and Montagues, maybe, but more so the happy stories, ones with sanguine endings? Even if you have not, don’t turn away: everyone appreciates a good story, and Napa Valley Community College’s upcoming production of “Beauty and the Beast” is just that.
In collaboration with Cafeteria Kids Theater, Napa Valley College Performing Arts brings you the story of Belle, a young girl living unhappily in a small, provincial town, and the Beast, a young prince imprisoned by the wicked spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved in return, he will be freed of the curse – if he cannot, he and his household will be doomed to remain under the enchantress’ curse for all of eternity. The show is full of love, laughter, song, and pain, themes depicted profoundly by the live pit orchestra and the team of nearly 60 actors. Both groups of performers range from all slices of life and age in Napa County, directed by Aimée Guillot Olivia Cowell with music direction by Dr. Christina Howell.
“The pit orchestra for Beauty and the Beast is working hard to recreate the iconic songs from the original movie and broadway show, all while accompanying our amazing singers and performers. We hope you’ll come and see us live!” Second year NVC student and concertmaster for ‘Beauty and the Beast’, writes, one of many doting words about Beauty and the Beast.
“Everybody should come see Beauty and the Beast! It is a perfect balance between romance, comedy, adventure, and loss. The costumes and direction are extremely well done. It’s going to be truly incredible,” April Shaw, senior at St. Helena High School portraying Belle alongside Felizia Rubio, seconds in praise.
Napa Valley Community College invites you through November 4th and 13th to witness the timeless retelling of a tale as old as time: Walt Disney and Alan Menken’s “Beauty and the Beast”.
